Sunnah Lived Experience Experiment

AKA:“What Muhammad Did”
Directions: Sunnah is the name given to the deeds of the Prophet Muhammad did apart from what was required of all Muslims. Muhammad did these himself and told others to do them as well. Your job for this LEE is for you and your family to complete and document as many of these sunnah requirements as you can in a single day (24 hours max). You must present your results using photos in a visual media (ppt. photostory, movie, magazine etc.) that may include text. Where appropriate, parent signatures are required. And rememeber…this is a short list that can be done fairly easily by students. It does not reflect the broad and often serious nature of sunnah.
1. Men help women in their household chores
2. Signature of Person Helped/Who helped you: _____________________________
3. Men clean their own clothes, milk their own sheep, and do their own chores
Parent/Guardian Signature_____________________________________________
4. Answer an insult with a humorous remark [Must be authentic. You can get someone to re-enact it only after they did it for real. No baiting them to insult you.]
5. give water to a starving dog (and get a free ticket to heaven)
6. let your dog eat out of your own soup bowl then clean it well afterwards
7. own a cat or dog [borrowing allowed if you don’t have one]
8. "Holy is the Being who adorned men with beards and women with braids" don’t disturb sleeping cats
9. brush one’s teeth

12. when you smile it is charity
13. stand in the rain and let it fall on your body
14. laugh often, smile much
15. have fun, make lots of jokes
16. sing*
17. be kind and indulgant to children, the prophet used to even shorten the prayer when he heard a child cry
18. love overcomes hatred, forgiveness overcomes aggression [Identify an example from your day].
19. speak a good word, or else be silent [Describe].
20. When one is eating with another person then he should not stop eating as long as the other person is eating, even though the stomach has become full, this is so that the other person does not feel ashamed. If one has to stop eating, then he should make an excuse.
21. Moderation in all: charity, eating, dressing and worship. Avoid extremes. [You Narrate]
22. Concerning the toilet: Cover your head, enter with left foot, exit with right, no talking or texting (cough if you need to let someone know you are in there); men must always sit; you must not face Mecca or be backward to Mecca (No facing NE or SE). [Use good judgment; not required].
23. Divide your eye contact when speaking in groups.*
